How Does Treatment Work

How Does Treatment Work 2017-10-21T19:23:11+00:00

Treatments at the Toronto Spine & Sports Clinic are specifically designed to treat acute and chronic neck and back pain due to disc herniations, spinal arthritis, sciatic, degenerative disc disease, spinal stenosis and failed back surgery.

One of the reasons why our technology is so successful is due to the delivery precision of our treatment. Once we have identified where your problems are stemming from (i.e. disc or disc levels), we have the capability of focusing our treatment forces on that precise area of concern. In fact, treatments are so accurate that approximately 80-90% of the treatment forces will be applied to problematic area directly. By having such focused treatments, our patients can enjoy quicker healing, change and rehabilitation.

In fact, treatment precision is so effective, that many patients can feel significant relief in their pain levels within only 3 visits… despite how long or how much damage has been developed in their spine.

Disc Rehabilitation Treatment

For such conditions as disc herniations, spinal arthritis, degenerative disc disease and failed back surgery, it is generally a result of disc damage. Whether that be due to the inner jelly like substance (i.e. Nucleus Pulposis) leaking to the outside of the disc and pressing on the spinal nerves, as in a disc herniation (see Video)

Or whether the symptoms are stemming from decaying discs (i.e. thinning or wearing out of the spinal discs) due to spinal arthritis and/or degenerative disc disease (see video). Decaying or thinning discs will cause the vertebrae to close up, which in turn causes the spinal joints to rub together (i.e. Facet Syndrome and localized back pain) and vertebral compression onto the spinal nerves (i.e sciatica or numbness and tingling down your arms).

Regardless, of which of the above you have, our Advanced Non-Surgical Spinal Decompression Therapy is designed to rehabilitate your discs and remove the pressure off of your joints and nerves so as to remove your pain and symptoms AND provide LASTING results.

What you will experience

While you lie comfortably on our treatment bed, our Non-Surgical Spinal Decompression Technology will gently distract the problematic vertebrae adjacent to your damaged disc in such a fashion as to create a negative pressure (i.e. vacuum-like effect) within your disc.

If you are suffering from a disc herniation, this vacuum-like effect, will draw or suck back in your herniated disc material into the centre of your disc and remove the pressure off of your spinal nerves. Once this occurs, scar tissue will form around the opening, thus creating a natural seal.

If, on the other hand, your pain and symptoms are stemming from a decaying or thinned disc from spinal arthritis or degenerative disc disease, this same vacuum-like effect will draw in water and nutrients from the surrounding tissues and rehydrate and thicken your disc. By increasing the size of your disc, your joints will open so that they are no longer rubbing (i.e. rehabilitation of Facet Syndrome) AND open up the canals where your spinal nerve exit so that the vertebrae are no longer putting pressure on them.

Treatment is very comfortable

Although, this may sound like an uncomfortable treatment, it is in fact, very comfortable. Actually, most of our patients say they experience little to no discomfort while under care, instead enjoy a great stress relieving stretch at their problem site.

The reason our patients are able to enjoy great comfort while under our care is because our technology has a very sophisticated computerized patient monitoring system that continuously monitors how your body is adapting to treatment at a rate of 17 times per second. This continuous patient monitoring ensure such patient comfort that more often than not, patients fall asleep while under care or listen to music or watch movies on our built in T.V
